Adoption Matters supports Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot UK film release

10 October 2024

Adoption Matters are pleased to support the UK release of Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot.

Inspired by the powerful true story, the film follows Donna and Reverend Martin as they ignite a fire in the hearts of their rural community to embrace children in the foster system that nobody else would take. By doing the impossible – adopting 77 children – this East Texas community proved that, with real, determined love, the battle for America’s most vulnerable can be won.

The film was Executive Produced by Letitia Wright (Black Panther) who is passionate about raising awareness of the story.

Whilst the film does not portray modern UK adoption and we know that US and UK adoption is very different, we hope that the film will inspire people to think about the children waiting here in the UK and to think about both adoption and fostering.

We know that Black children often wait longer for adoption and fostering in the UK, something Adoption Matters works hard to change by inspiring more people in Black and ethnic diverse communities to consider adoption and also fostering, through our new service Foster Care Matters.

On Monday 7 October Adoption Matters Chief Executive, Susy White attended the Parliamentary and Gala Screening in London.  Susy was honoured to meet Donna and Reverend Martin, Letitia Wright and Nika King who plays Donna in the film, Joshua Weigel the director, as well as Krish Kandiah and Rachael Maskell MP who chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Adoption and Permanence.

The film launches in UK cinemas Friday 11th October so do check it out and let us know what you think! The trailer and the latest screenings and timings are available to view here: https://soundofhopemovie.co.uk
