From 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020 – Adoption Matters placed 112 children with our families. 112 new starts, 112 forever families! This is the highest number of children placed since our placement records began in 1955. Working closely with our Regional Adoption Agency colleagues across the country in securing more children their forever home.
We are proud of the hard work and dedication of our staff, as one of the largest independent adoption agencies and children’s charities in the country, as this year, we also approved more families than ever before, welcoming 87 new families.
How long do our families wait?
We are often asked how long do families wait once they are approved to adopt. We have to stress that every family and child/ren who are placed for adoption are different and our experienced team of practitioners work hard to ensure we match the right family to meet a child or children’s needs and this cannot be driven by any timescales. We can report our ‘waiting’ statistics for the year 2018-19 are as follows:
73% of our adopters were linked with child/ren under 4 months from date of approval (includes 35% under 2 months)
56% of our adopters were matched with children under 6 months from date of approval with the average time from date of approval to matching with a child or children for all families was 7 months
Support offered:
From April 2018 to March 2019 Adoption Matters also provided therapeutic support to over 500 families and worked with over 60 schools. Over 450 people have attended our training programmes and workshops.
