It’s LGBT Adoption & Fostering Week 4-10 March, as proud members of New Family Social, Adoption Matters are proud to again support this year’s campaign.
LGBT+ Adoption and Fostering Week, 4-10 March 2019
The latest statistics from the Department of Education show that in 2018 there were 450 adoptions by same-sex couples, out of 3,820 adoptions. This accounts for 1 in 8 of all adoptions that year, or 12 per cent. Currently the Department only record limited data on LGBT+ adoptions this is because recording is still relatively recent. The above data excludes bisexual people, Trans people not in a same sex relationship and single LGBT adopters. Therefore, the real number of LGBT+ adopters will be considerably higher.
However, more LGBT adopters are still needed to come forward to provide loving, stable homes for children across the UK.
Adoption Matters are proud members of New Family Social – the UK charity working for LGBT adopters, foster carers and their children who organise the week each year.

Adoption Matters Chief Executive, Norman Goodwin CBE says: ‘We know from experience that LGBT people often come to adoption and fostering with an open mind and real enthusiasm – it’s often their first choice for growing their family. Many of our children have had a very chaotic start to life and we’ve seen them thrive with their new parents.
‘You can be single, over 45 and you don’t need to own your own home to consider adoption. We need people with stability, love and resourcefulness who can who can help a child with whatever needs they may have.’
