Leading children’s charity Adoption Matters are raising awareness of the growing need for more families to consider adoption. Their 2019 recruitment campaign is appealing for more people to consider adopting as the numbers of children waiting outweighs adopters by 3 to 1.
Adoption Matters Chief Executive, Norman Goodwin, CBE commented: “This growing demand for adopters has not slowed down at all in the last twelve months here at Adoption Matters, but we still need more families to consider adoption. Many people still think they can’t adopt for a variety of reasons which are often not true! You can be single, married, LGBTQ, working or retired to adopt and Adoption Matters provides full training and support. What you do need is the love and commitment to offer these many children a stable home”.
We are keen to accept enquiries from people interested in all aspects of adoption, including babies and toddlers, sibling groups to older children up to the age of 7+ as there is currently such a high demand for adopters. We offer a variety of routes to adoption including fostering via adoption through the Concurrent Planning Service and fostering to adopt”.
The agency are holding a number of adoption information events across the country including, Chester, Hale, Manchester, Pensby on the Wirral, Liverpool, Warrington, Wigan, Leeds & Stoke. Adoption Matters placed 133 children with their forever families in the last 2 years through adoption and an additional 86 children through their Concurrent Planning Service. The agency has been in operation for over 72 years, placing over 4,100 children in that time. They are the ONLY independent adoption agency to be rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted four times in a row and have now held this rating since 2008.
Through their partnership service, The Centre for Adoption Support, they offer ongoing support to their families for as long as they need it. The Centre also offers a wide variety of workshops, training and events for families, children and professionals.
As the agency is a independent not for profit charity, they work with local authority adoption teams across the whole of the UK, meaning they offer their families a wider ‘pool’ of children to consider for adoption.
