How many children are waiting for adoption?

There are 3,000 children waiting for adoption in England.

Over half of these children have been waiting more than 18 months since entering care.

Children typically tend to wait longer for their adoptive family if they:

• Are aged over the age of 5 years
• Are part of a brother and sister group
• Have additional needs
• Are from a diverse ethnic background

There has been a 55% rise in the number of children waiting in over a year.
