Adoption agency worker crowned Adoption Support Worker of the Year

Leading North West adoption agency Adoption Matters are delighted that their Centre for Adoption Support Service Manager Delyth Evans, has been named as Adoption Support Worker of the Year at the First4Adoption National Adoption Week Awards held in London on 18 October 2016.

Delyth has worked within children’s services for over 30 years and for the last 10 years, within the field of Adoption Support. She set up a pioneering Adoption Support Service within Cheshire East Council that was recognised for being the first in the area to develop support into schools and in producing a highly efficient Letterbox service.

Adoption Matters Chief Executive, Norman Goodwin CBE commented: “When Adoption Matters and Caritas Care set up our regional Centre for Adoption Support back in 2013, Delyth was our first choice when it came to identifying who had the specialist experience and skills to establish and manage it”.

By the end of the first 2 years the Centre had considerably exceeded all targets and expectations. Delyth was recently invited to share the centres model in both Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Centre, which is run in partnership with Caritas Care, offers training and support to adopters, their families and professionals and has now worked with 453 families, nearly 40 different local authorities and over 100 schools across the North West and continues to grow.

Two other Adoption Matters staff were shortlisted for awards: Adoption Support Practitioner, Hetty Verhagen was also shortlised for Adoption Practitioner of the Year and one of the agency’s longest serving members of staff, Patricia Dalton, Senior Adoption Practitioner & Post Adoption Support Worker was shortlised for the Lifetime Achievement Award for her 30+ years service with the agency.
