National Adoption Week was celebrated in style on Tuesday 20th October as Bolton Wanderers welcomed a special team at the Macron Stadium. Staff from children’s charity and award winning adoption agency, Adoption Matters, were in attendance to raise awareness about the need for more adopters across the region.
The special adoption match, which saw Bolton Wanderers take on Birmingham City, also featured a huge image projected onto the stadium to promote the National Adoption Week campaign ‘Too old at 4′ – part of a national campaign by First 4 Adoption intended to encourage people to consider adopting older children who often wait much longer for their forever family.
Adoption Matters staff were given a warm welcome by both home and away fans, with many responding generously to the pre-match collection or taking the chance to chat about making a difference to some of the thousands of children who are still waiting to find a stable, loving home.
Football fans are also invited to a very special fixture on Saturday 30th January 2016 when the Bolton Wanderers Community will be hosting an Adoption Information Morning which will include an exciting behind the scenes tour of the stadium and a chance to chat with the Adoption Matters team and their adopters.
Norman Goodwin CBE, Adoption Matters Chief Executive commented: “We are thrilled that Bolton Wanderers has chosen to support Adoption Matters as their chosen national charity for the 2015/16 season. Part of our recruitment strategy this year is to target sports clubs and to raise awareness of adoption with men as, contrary to popular belief, just as many men make that first enquiry to adopt as women. This Adoption Match is a great way to get the message across and we are very grateful to them for hosting it.
Bolton Wanderers spokesperson Phil Mason said “We are delighted to be working with Adoption Matters during the coming season and we are excited about the Adoption themed Match. Many of our programmes within the Community Trust work with vulnerable children and young people and we know how important it is to have stability within their home environment. As a family club we would want to promote the values and ethos of Adoption Matters.”
